Abstract:

Tidal stream energy is highly predictable renewable energy resource and is considered as a promising technology to lower greenhouse gas emissions for sustainable development. Unfortunately, tidal stream turbines (TST) are still in development stages with few industrial project deployments. Indeed, tidal energy systems are not yet massively deployed as they are facing power quality, reliability, and availability challenges mainly due the harsh immersion conditions and fluctuating marine currents. In the sensitive context of an immersed system as a tidal turbine, a resilient control and sensors fault tolerant MPPT is a key feature aiming to increase the availability and energy conversion efficiency. Moreover, hybrid energy storage systems should allow smoothening the fluctuating behavior of the output power. This presentation proposes to deal with two timely topics related to the massive integration of TST in the power grid :

  • Energy storage systems for output power smoothing,
  • A robust and disturbances rejection control strategy for reliable operation.

Biography:

I received the diploma engineer degree (Dipl.-Ing.) in Automatic and Electrical Engineering and Research Master’s degree in Automatic Systems, Computer Science and Decision, from the National Polytechnic Institute of Toulouse (ENSEEIHT), Toulouse, France, in 2010. Then, I recieved the Ph.D. degree and the Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (HDR : Highest French Degree) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Brest, Brest, France in 2013 and 2020, respectively.

After receiving the Ph.D. degree, I have been a Research Fellow at ISEN Yncréa Ouest, Brest, France and an Associate Member of the LBMS_Lab (EA 4325) from October 2013 to September 2014. From September 2014, to June 2022, I was an Associate Professor at ISEN Yncréa Ouest and a member of Energy and Electrical Systems Team of LABISEN, Brest, France. I was in charge of Energy Master's program and a member of the steering committe of the LABISEN. From 2016 to 2020, I was an affiliated member of the Institut de Recherche Dupuy de Lôme – IRDL (UMR CNRS 6027). Since June 2022, I am a Professor of Electrical Engineering at ISEN Yncréa Ouest and a member of the steering committe of the LABISEN, Nantes France. I am also in charge of the Master’s Degree Apprenticeship (three years to complete), Nantes Campus.

I was elevated to the grade of IEEE Senior Member in 2019. Since 2020, I am a Topic Editor for MDPI Energies Journal and a member of the Editorial Board of MDPI Energies. I am also an Associate Editor for IET GTD. I authored more than 100 papers in national and internantional journals and conferences and five book chapters. I regularly serve as a reviewer for national and international journals and conferences. I was named in the World’s Top 2% Scientists ~ Stanford-Elsevier B.V. Ranking three years in row: 2021, 2022, and 2023.

My current research interests include power systems condition monitoring, fault tolerant control, and signal processing and machine learning for power systems monitoring. I'm also interested in power electronics for EV's charging stations, energy management systems for microgrids-based on renewables, and marine renewable energy systems such as offshore wind and marine current turbines.
